Austrian composer Max Steiner (1888-1971) moved to New York after the outbreak of World War I. He worked with George Gershwin and Jerome Kern on Broadway before following the call of the West and Hollywood. Although Gone With The Wind is probably his best-known movie, other notable works include King Kong (1933), Casablanca (1942), The Big Sleep (1946), The Jazz Singer (1952) and A Summer Place (1959).
